Master Closet Makeover

This closet was a jumbled mess. It had become a disorganized catchall for clothes, accessories and random clutter.

My client knew she wanted a whole new closet. But before designing her new space, it was time for the big purge! Everything that didn’t belong in the closet, like office supplies and work papers, found new homes.

We then tackled clothes, shoes and purses. Two large bags of donate items and two large bags of trash cleared out even more space. We then set about organizing everything that was left.

With a clear idea of what would remain in the space, it was time to design the new closet. We turned to elfa from The Container Store. I love its flexibility, especially since we needed to design around a large gun cabinet and island. We also purchased matching hangers, labels, shelf dividers, clear shoe boxes, and new bins, baskets and hat boxes.

Her hubbie’s impressive collection of baseball caps is now contained in matching baskets. Her purses are stacked nicely in linen boxes so they’re easy to find. Her shoes are easy to see and grab now that they’re in clear shoe boxes. And her hats are protected from dust in new boxes. And I just love these labels! They’re little chalk boards that clip onto anything. The chalk pin ink just wipes off with a little bit of water so they’re re-useable!

The new streamlined storage creates order and calm because everything has a home and is easy to see.

Now these clients do a little happy dance every morning when they get ready for the day. 🙂
