With school back in full swing, it’s a great idea to have everyone in the family, kiddos included, take part in making your home run efficiently. And if you present it as something the whole family is involved in, you can make it feel more fun.
A chore schedule is a great way to make sure every room in your home gets attention on a regular basis. And it’s a great way to show your kids that their help is important and appreciated.
Make a list of all chores to be divided up. Assign chores based on your kids’ ages and competence. You can look at it as beginner (pre-school), intermediate (grade school) and advanced (high school and adults).
Beginner chores can include putting toys and games away, gathering garbage cans from various rooms in the house so they can be added to the main garbage, helping sort laundry and helping make beds (with the goal being they make their own beds once they’re old enough to do it on their own).
Intermediate chores can include things like emptying the dishwasher, helping wash dishes and vacuuming.
Advanced chores are pretty much everything else. But there’s no reason your older kids can’t pitch in and help with cleaning, taking out the trash and recycling, and helping with laundry.
You can rotate chores to keep things fresh for everyone and add chores as your kids get better.
With everyone pitching in, keeping your household running smoothly will hopefully free up time so you can enjoy more play time as a family. And, as always, organizing is kind of my thing, so give me a call if you have an organizing project that feels a bit overwhelming.
