Tennis shoes in the living room, flip flops or boots in the entryway and a pile of shoes in the closet. It’s so much easier to complete an outfit and head out the door for the day when your shoes are organized.
Gather all of your shoes from around the house into one place for sorting. Toss any shoes that are beyond hope and donate shoes you no longer want or need.
For the rest, sort into groups: tennis shoes, high heels, sandals, etc. Then sort each of those groups by color. By doing this, you can really see if there’s a lot of redundancies.
I also like sorting my shoes by season – summer and winter. You can store out-of-season shoes higher up in your closet. Take advantage of vertical space by putting them in stackable shoe boxes. I prefer clear boxes so I can easily see inside.
For your in-season shoes, decide on a shoe storage solution that will best serve you. If you have shelves in your closet, great. If those shelves are far apart, you can add risers or use clear shoe boxes to stack. If you have wall space or a door, think about an over-the-door shoe organizer. You can also use hanging shoe bags on a closet rod.
The important thing is to make sure the shoes you wear wind up in the home you just created for them so you can start each day off on the right foot! 😊
