Spring De-Clutter

My house is not a mess
Spring has sprung!  It’s that time of year when we all think about a fresh start by tackling our Spring cleaning!

But here’s a tip: An uncluttered home looks cleaner than a clean home full of clutter.

Think about it.  You can give your home a fresh clean feel without picking up a sponge.  Now don’t get me wrong, clean is great.  I love clean.  But how about a quick kick-start to cleaner looking?

Turn on some music, set the kitchen timer for a half hour or hour and see how much you can get done.

Not sure where to start?  SOS is here to help!

  1. Toss things that bug you every time you look at them.  Maybe it’s a broken figurine that you know you’re never going to fix or a pile of old magazines that you’re never going to read.  If your stuff is stressing you out, throw it out (or donate it).
  2. Go through your closet.  Ask yourself, “Would I buy this if I went shopping today?”  If the answer is “no,” time to let it go.  The size 4 pants you haven’t squeezed into in years probably make you feel bad about yourself.  Don’t let a pair of jeans have that kind of power over you.  Keep what you wear and donate the rest.
  3. While we’re talking clothes, don’t forget bras, underwear and socks.  Stretched out bras aren’t doing your girls any favors and if you have socks with no mate, time to bye bye.
  4. Take a look at flat surfaces like kitchen counters, table tops, desk tops, nightstands and dressers.  Does every item need to be out and on display?  Flat surfaces are clutter magnets.  Just clearing some of that “stuff” gives the impression of clean.  Plus, if it’s not sitting out, when you do decide to clean, you won’t have to dust it. 🙂
  5. Do a quick bathroom walk-through.  Overflowing medicine cabinets, drawers and under-sink cupboards are a haven for clutter.  Expired products and medicines should be tossed.  And why are you holding onto the back-up hair dryer that seems to have given birth to two more or hair accessories that you never wear?  If you aren’t using it, lose it.

Time’s up.  Take a look around.  I bet your house looks cleaner even though you have yet to pick up a dust rag. 🙂

I can’t wait to hear everyone’s stories!
